“Objects are like people. Each one – be it brand new or weathered with the paint peeling off – has it’s own story. Being able, on the other side of the camera, to capture that individual story is just thrilling.”~ Devi Randolph
It never ceases to amaze me, an image seen by 10 different people results in 10 completely diverse works of art. The scene is absorbed relative to experience, mind-set, mood. Every little piece of us dictates our response.
During our trip to Monhegan each person used one medium, the camera. The result, very dissimilar works!
It am excited to introduce Devi Randolph. Devi is a young creative, known for fabulously interesting pics taken with her smart phone. Those that follow her anxiously await to see what her muse will be for that day.
“I am able to express myself in a lot of ways – in music, writing, drawing, and styling – but snapping a thousand pictures, combing through and editing endlessly….I feel liberated in a whole different way.” ~ Devi Randolph, sixteen
Devi often focuses on detail subjects such as these photographs entitled ‘The Knot Collection’. No landscapes or pictures of scenery for her! Rusted metal, parts of just junk, corners of a building, feet, morning coffee, not so perfect flowers, ice,……snippets of life that catch her attention deserve a click of the shutter. She will employ double exposure or filters when it seems fitting.
Devi will be performing piano and song at Rock City Cafe in Rockland, August 22rd from 7-9pm. She describes her music as quirky/eclectic, in the same category as Regina Spektor and Birdy. Both cover versions and original music will be heard.
