At the vineyard and in the orchard

Our fall foliage series closes with scenes from Savage Oaks Winery and Schoolhouse Farm orchards.

We stopped by Savage Oaks Winery in Union for a tasting.

Holly Savage was a gracious hostess. So many wonderful varieties to choose from.

Our favorites:

Sterlingtown – a fresh, just picked off the vine flavor, strong grape taste that’s easy on the palate, great with duck or a cheese plate.

Daybreak Blush – I totally love blush wines – this one – fabulous!! Just what I was expecting but much more. Bright, not too sweet, a mix of delicious summer fruits. I will drink it any time of year, with just about anything – that’s just me!

Nor’easter – Definitely a dessert port with a hint of chocolate but not too much to pair with chocolate cake.

Afterward, a walk past the cows and on to the vineyard, so delightful!

There is something about cows, they are just so chillax…

Late harvest

Savage Oaks is open for tastings until then end of October.

There’s also just enough time left for apple picking at Schoolhouse Farm in Warren.

My companions and I enjoyed tasting every variety in the orchard and picked three varieties to take home for pies.
